Grants For Your Social Initiatives

“Ka-boom,” he said.

That was Imran’s reply when we asked him to describe Discover Muaythai’s journey as a myHarapan Youth Action Grants recipient; in one word.

Imran DMT

Discover Muaythai offers Muaythai-based fitness trainings and services, and empowers underprivileged youths to lead a life of dignity and independence by developing character and positive values through Muaythai.

“YAG literally ka-boomed our social business. From merely an idea, YAG ignited DMT and helped us realise it into an operating social business,” said Imran Harith, CEO & Co-Founder of Discover Muaythai.

Since its inception in 2010, the myHarapan Youth Action Grants has empowered hundreds of young Malaysians to create positive and sustainable impact within their respective communities.

Many, like Imran and the team at Discover Muaythai, lead initiatives and businesses with social and/or environmental missions – and are sustainable, replicable and scalable.

For some, like Jackie Yap; the Founding CEO of HiGi Energy, the Youth Action Grants also came with it, networks and opportunities.

HiGi

HiGi is an ASEAN social startup founded to reduce usage of firewood and charcoal by employing rural labour to convert agricultural wastes into alternative cooking energy.

“As a grant recipient, we are now connected to a bigger network of social business and social entrepreneurs, including intermediaries and supporters,” said Jackie. “Definitely guided us in positioning ourselves in a competitive market,” he added.

This year, myHarapan has teamed up with a corporate superhero to support new cause-driven initiatives and businesses via the myHarapan-Toyota Youth Action Grants.
